*The Assistant Manager of Rangos Giant Cinema *is responsible for the management of day-to-day operations of The Rangos Giant Cinema, including the concession stand and major projection-systems. Duties include hiring, on-boarding, scheduling, motivating, direct supervision, and evaluation of full time and part-time staff and providing supervisory support with visitor interactions. Perform all functions of the Visitor Services Rangos Representative and Senior Representative as needed, including modeling and maintaining the highest level of performance for all staff. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Candidate should have at least three years' experience working in a customer service field and one year professional experience involving cash handling practices.  Must have proven success in managing a team and providing leadership in difficult situations. 
  • DCI-compliant movie projection experience required.  
  • Basic business computer skills required. 
  • Experience maintaining program safety, quality, and vision in a fast-paced, complex and changing environment is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Requires a highly organized, guest-centered individual who can manage a team of part-time and full-time staff and support innovative science learning experiences.
  • Ability to manage complex tasks in a dynamic environment is essential.
  • Candidates must have effective communication skills.
  • The Rangos Giant Cinema requires a general knowledge of computer and technology skills involving projection systems, lighting board and sound equipment and Point of Sale (POS) software.
  • Knowledge of cash handling and food safety is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Remaining in place for long periods of time.
  • Some sitting may be required, but individuals in this position will more often than not be moving throughout all areas, attending to customers and staff.  
  • Requires ability to communicate to visitors, staff and external guests in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Position works with food handling. 
  • Must attend safety trainings regularly and be current on FDA compliance
  • Variable work week.  Includes weekday, evening, weekend and holiday work as needed.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Hire, train, motivate, coordinate, and evaluate staff for all areas of supervision to maintain a high achieving and enthusiastic team committed to safety, innovation, quality work, and positive inter-departmental relations, beneficial outcomes, strong science content, and audience engagement and enjoyment.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to best practices in safety and operations; work to improve documentation and processes wherever they are lacking; enforce policies and procedures; ensure team members are properly trained in all areas relevant to their duties.
  • Identify and address safety concerns to promote best practices in Laser projection systems in a museum setting while meeting OSHA, FDA, and SDS regulations.
  • Serve as a member of the cross-departmental daily operations team. Set an example for consistently high standards of customer service. Be familiar with procedures for resolving guest conflicts and concerns and make informed decisions in dealing with guests.
  • Supervise the overall day to day museum operations, which includes being a leader for all staff in problem solving highly complex situations.
  • Under the direction of the Rangos Theater Manager, execute the overall safety and programming strategy for the Rangos Giant Cinema at Carnegie Science Center to provide guests with the highest quality engagement.
  • Support the Audio-Visual (AV) department in resolving technical issues and recording documentation as needed.  Monitor and track equipment through logs and reports, create updates to checklists and execute continued learning with AV provided trainings. 
  • Provide support to Rangos Theater manager for staff training and proficiency checks.  Review processes yearly to ensure accuracy.
  • Schedule, supervise and motivate staff working directly with the visitors to assure excellent customer service and operational efficiency.  
  • Assist the Rangos Theater Manager in ensuring availability of items necessary for successful operations, including but not limited to: food and beverage products, currency and change, ticket stock, signage, office supplies, brochures, and visitor information.  
  • Work to maintain an orderly system for storing and displaying all above-mentioned material. 
  • Ensure facility cleanliness, safety and operational efficiency in both concession and theater auditorium operations.
  • Working in concert with the Director of Theater Experiences and the Rangos Theater Manager, develop annual departmental budgets that focus on efficiency, productivity, and sustainable operations.
  • Under the direction of the Rangos Theater Manager maintain project budgets and schedules, ensuring that programs achieve the highest level of quality while remaining within budget and meeting all assigned criteria.
  • Oversee balancing of cash and receipts for Visitor Services Rangos Representatives: run ticketing system reports; provide change; approve refunds.  
  • Work to resolve all monetary discrepancies, and any other cash handling issues that may arise. Identify and communicate shortcomings in the POS system by proactively monitoring and assessing it for accuracy.
  • Work with the Marketing department to provide program descriptions, responding to information requests and monitoring presentations performed to ensure that program goals and objectives are achieved. 
  • Identify opportunities to develop collaborative programming opportunities with the other components of Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh (CMP): Carnegie Museum of Natural History (CMNH), Carnegie Museum of Art (CMoA), and the Andy Warhol Museum (AWM).

The following PA Act 153 clearances, or proof of application of clearances, are required beginning employment and as a condition of continued employment: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check Obtaining the required clearances is completed as part of the new hire process.
